Superfood – “a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being.”
The question has to be asked if were ordering a Maca latte or additional Chia seeds in our smoothies. Do you really know what the latest ‘superfood’ trends are and what they do?…not to worry, we will be explaining a few of our favorites and you’ll be glad to know, they ARE as good for you as you think!
MACA – This is a root vegetable from the mountains of Peru. Maca has become a staple superfood powder (especially for the ladies) as it is renowned for its many benefits including hormone balance and boosting fertility! It has high omega 3 fatty acid content which means Maca can improve your mood by reducing feelings of stress and anxiety. It is extremely high in vitamins and minerals too which mean it is great for that added energy boost!
WHEATGRASS – Wheatgrass has around 90 beneficial minerals in it which is great tool for improving digestion thanks to its vitamin B, amino acids and enzyme content. It is the young grass of the wheat plant, and one of the best sources of chlorophyll. Wheatgrass will help the body detoxify by eliminating waste and toxins from the body. This is definitely one superfood which will improve your overall well-being.
SPIRULINA – Spirulina is a cultivated micro-algae which has been consumed for many years in Mexico and Africa. It can help control blood sugar levels and is a great source of antioxidents. I bet you didn’t know it is one of the highest known and most bio-available protein sources which 70 protein content, compared to a steak which has 25!! It is classed as one of the most nutritious foods on the planet, putting it right up there on the superfoods list!
CHIA SEEDS – Chia seeds are known for their ability to provide sustainable energy and have an extremely high nutritional content. They are one of the best sources of fiber due to their ability to expand and absorb up to 10 times their weight in water. This helps us feel full and feeds the friendly bacteria in our intestine which is vital for good gut heath. Chia seeds also have a good protein content and omega 3 too making these tiny seeds one of the highest superfoods in nutritional content!
